Russell and Heather Crooker embarked on an exciting journey in December 2020, starting with just one acre of Yecora Rojo wheat on their family farm. Their initial goal was to supply the local bakery, Alchemy Bread, but after their first year that quickly led to expansion. Today, they proudly service several local bakers, ensuring the community enjoys fresh, locally-sourced bread.
The Crookers grow their wheat organically on fields that are carefully rotated every three years, with cows grazing during the off years to enrich the soil naturally. This sustainable approach not only yields high-quality wheat but also maintains the health of their land.
Both Russell and Heather are ardent supporters of local food. Heather's involvement goes beyond the farm as she runs the local Ripon farmers market, bringing fresh, locally-produced goods to their neighbors. Their commitment to local food and sustainable farming is an inspiration to their community.
